How to Measure Your Body

  1. Head (Hats and Caps)
Measure the largest part of the head, with tape above brow.

  2. Arm (Sleeve Length)
With arm relaxed at your side and slightly bent, measure from center back neck, over point of shoulder, down the outside of the arm to the wrist. If no assistance is available, take a well-fitting shirt; lay it on a flat surface. Fold the sleeve at the elbow and measure as above to the end of the cuff.

  3. Back-Neck to Waist
Measure your back from the base of your neck to your waist.

  4. Shoulders
Measure around the thickest part of your shoulders.

  5. Bust
Measure around the thickest / fullest section of your bust / pectorals. This does apply to both men and women. Women should wear a bra for this measurement.

  6. Chest
Measure around your rib cage just beneath your bust / pectorals.

  7. Waist
Measure around your waist across your navel. If your costume includes pants, then measure were you like your pants rest.

  8. Outer Seam - Waist to Ankle
Measure from your waist to your ankle or where the hem of your pants comes to.

  9. Outer Seam - Waist to Floor
Measure from your waist to the floor / bottom of your heel.

  10. Hip / Buttocks
Measure around the thickest part of you hips while standing. This should actually be lower than your hips and more around your buttocks.

  11. Outer Seam - Hip to Ankle
Measure from your hip to ankle or where the hem of your pants comes to.

  12. Outer Seam - Hip to Floor
Measure from you hip to the floor / bottom of your heel.

  13. Inseam
Measure similar pants that fit you well. Lay them flat, with the front and back creased smooth. Measure along the inseam from crotch to the bottom of the leg hem along the inseam.

  14. Foot
Measure from your heel to your big toe. Include your shoe size.

  • Torso (for Jumpsuits or Leotards)
Start by your neck at the highest point of your shoulder, then extend it down over your bust to your crotch and continue up your back to the starting point.

  • Neck
Place the measuring tape around the fullest part of your neck and keep the tape snug but not tight. For a comfortable fit, place 2 fingers between the tape and your neck. Round up to the next 1/2".

  • Skirt Length
This measure is necessary for costumes with skirts. Measure from the point of your waist along the outside of your hip down to the point at which you want the skirt to stop. For your most accurate measure, keep your arms at your sides and have someone help you measure.

  • Gloves and Mittens
Measure from the base of the wrist to the tip of the middle finger. If you have uncommonly wide hands, please note in comments the width of knuckles (excluding thumb).
